James F. White

James F. White, 99, died peacefully Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy.
He was born in Hudson on May 6, 1925, the son of the late James M. and Alberta (Vendetti) White. He was a 1942 graduate of Hudson High School where he played football, basketball and baseball.
Jim enrolled in Syracuse University for a semester but was called to serve during World War II in the US Navy.
Upon returning home, he enrolled in RPI in Troy under the GI bill. He played college football for the Engineers and was the quarterback in the single wing offense. He graduated in 1949 with a bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering.
His first job following RPI was with Western Electric where he met his late wife Margaret (Maxwell) White who was an operator. They were married on August 28, 1948 and were married for 72 years before she passed away on July 2, 2020.
Jim then began his career with the New York State Department of Transportation where he was employed for over 40 years as a construction engineer supervisor for Division 1 before retiring.
He was an avid golfer and a 35 year member of the Van Schaick Country Club in Cohoes. He was a diehard NY Yankee baseball fan.
The family would like to thank the staff of the 4th floor at Samaritan Hospital for the wonderful care given to our father.
In addition to his late wife Margaret, he was the beloved father of James W. (Beryl) White of Clifton Park and Catherine (Steven) Sorensen of Chittenango, NY; proud grandfather of Pamela (Paul) Downey, Timothy (Cristina) Sorensen and Todd (Yut) Sorensen; great grandfather of Alexander, Nicklaas, Leah, Elanor, James, Isabel and Iris; brother of the late Doris Bernockie. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral mass on Friday, December 13th at 11:30 am at Our Lady of Victory Church, 55 North Lake Avenue, Troy with Rev. Tom Morrette, Pastor, officiating. His ashes will be buried in the spring alongside his wife at Cedar Park Cemetery in Hudson.
A celebration of Jim’s life to honor his 100th birthday will be announced and will occur in May, 2025.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Disease Association, 1003 Loudon Road, Cohoes, NY 12047.
