[font=font157032]AROMA PARK [mdash] [/font]Charles E. Hess, of Aroma Park, passed away Saturday (Dec. 28, 2024). He would have been 96 years old on Jan. 13, 2025.
Charlie was born in 1929, the son of Edmond A. and Mary Baker Hess, in his childhood home in Momence, and delivered by his Uncle Dr. Gaylord Hess.
He had two brothers, Edmond A. “Tinker” Jr. (Lois) and William O. (Catharine).
In 1955, he married Wilma Raguse, of Kankakee. She preceded him in death in 2014. They had spent 59 years together.
Surviving are his four children, Stephen, of Houston, Texas, Jeffery (Dawn), of North Platte, Neb., Mary Pat Anderson, of Lyons, and Elizabeth (Julian), of Chicago; four grandchildren, Lauren (Stuart), Abby, Jessica and Charles; and one great-grandson, Lochlan.
Charlie served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict as a commanding officer of an anti-aircraft artillery training battery.
He was the chief engineer at Illinois Fabricators in Bradley for 34 years and retired in 1999.
Charlie was a very active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Kankakee. He served on the board of the Dr. Martin Luther King Adult Education Center in Kankakee from 1970 to 2007.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, until the noon funeral service, both at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 298 S. Harrison Ave., Kankakee.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church or to UpliftedCare Hospice in Bourbonnais.
