Gilbert Louis Roth, age 97, of Jeffersonville, IN passed away on Thursday, November 28, 2024.
Gilbert was born in Jeffersonville on January 13, 1927 to the late Nicholas P. Roth and Cordula (Theiller) Roth.
Gilbert graduated from Saint Xavier High School in Louisville, KY in the class of 1945. After his high school graduation he attended business courses at Indiana University. Gilbert retired from the Colgate-Palmolive Company as a Data Processing Supervisor. He and his wife were active members of Sacred Heart of Jesus in Jeffersonville.
Gilbert was a proud member of the finance committee among several other positions at his church. He was a member of Knights of Columbus of Jeffersonville #1348 and Data Processing Management Association of Louisville. He was a long-term finance volunteer for the Crusade for Children. Gilbert was an avid golfer, a long-standing season ticketholder of Jeffersonville High School basketball, enjoyed gardening, and spending time at his workbench.
Gilbert is preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 68 years, Mary Therese (ZurSchmiede) Roth; his son-in-law, Pat Isenberg. He was proudly the last living of nine children: seven sisters and his one brother.
Gilbert is survived by his children, Beverly (Steven) Bullock, Teresa “Terri” (Brian) Cleveland, Susan (Ted) Miller, Karen Schiller (Brian Jones), Nicholas “Nick” (Cara) Roth, and Nancy Isenberg; his 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The family extends a special thank you to the staff of the University of Louisville Hospital Stroke ICU unit for the excellent care and support provided to Gilbert.
A visitation will be held for Gilbert on Sunday, December 8, 2024 from noon to 6 p.m. and Monday, December 9 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 East Spring, New Albany. A funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart of Jesus in Jeffersonville on Monday, December 9, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. with a graveside service to follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Jeffersonville.
