Cliff VandeWall 81 of Oskaloosa passed away at Crystal Heights Care Center on July 25, 2024. He was born September 7, 1942 the son of Henry and Ruth (Klyn) VandeWall. He remained a life long resident.
One June 12,1964 he married his sweetheart Leilani VandeWall, his companion and love of his life. To this union came two very special children Bradley and Megan.
Cliff was a 1960 graduate of Oskaloosa Senior High School. He then attended William Penn College and graduated with honors in 1964. He furthered his education at Drake University earning a Master’s Degree in secondary education in 1968.
Cliff did his student teaching at Eddyville Jr-Sr High School where at the completion of this experience he was offered and accepted his first teaching position. His assignment was that of a grade 7 and 8 instructor of math. During his time at Eddyville he moved into the position of counselor where he served until being offered a similar position at Oskaloosa Senior High School in 1971 where he completed his education career in 2010.
In retirement Cliff worked at Forest Cemetery as he had done for several summers previously.
Cliff was a sports enthusiast, He especially enjoyed following the Detroit Tigers and professional tennis. His interest in tennis was sparked by his participation in the sport at both the high school and college level where he earned letters. Taking walks with Leilani and reading were also activities he enjoyed.
He was a member of the NEA,ISEA,OEA. He served as a trustee of the Old White Cemetery board. He was also a past member of the Oskaloosa City Council.
His parents Henry and Ruth VandeWall as well as parents in law Harry and Dorothy Warwick preceded him in death. His sister Norma and a nephew Corey also preceded him.
Left to kindle and carry his memory are his wife of 60 years and his children Brad and Megan. Also his brothers in law Sam and David Warwick and their spouses Diane and Donna plus several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be directed to the Oskaloosa Public Library. No services are planned at this time. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date.
