Albert James Howes, Sr.

Ipswich – Albert James Howes, Sr., formerly of Great Neck, Ipswich, MA, passed away on Friday November 29th, 2024 at Maplewood Center, Amesbury, MA.
Al was born on March 29th, 1938 at Seaside Farm, Dennis, MA. As he got older, Al milked cows with his friend Josh Crowell…Josh told a story where Al accidentally stepped his dirty shoe into the milk bucket…AI filtered the milk through cheese cloth and off the milk went to be bottled and sold!
In 1965, Al married Angela F O’Malley and in 1966 they had a son, Albert, Jr. Not long after, the young family moved from Dennis and to Quincy…then to Beverly where their second child Dennis was born in 1967. A few years later the family moved to Methuen and in 1971 their third son, Sean was born. Al was a salesman and worked for department stores such as Zayre and Resnick’s…while residing in Methuen, Al was hired to be The Boston Herald American district manager for Essex, Hamilton, Ipswich and Rowley. While delivering papers on Great Neck, Al saw a home for sale on Bayview Rd. In the summer of 1974 we moved to Ipswich. He raised his family here.
Al was founder of the Association of Great Neck and was a board member…he enjoyed publishing the newsletter and helped with the Labor Day clambakes on Clark Beach. Al was a president of the Ipswich Chamber of Commerce and helped organize and set up the week long ‘Olde Ipswich Days’. You might remember Al driving a 1972 Red VW van. We called it the ‘Tomato Can.” That van ‘climbed’ Mt Washington…also family trips to the Flume Gorge and the Basin. In 2008, Al and Angela sold their home in Ipswich and moved to Seabrook, NH. In the fall of 2011, Al suffered a major stroke and his left side was deeply compromised. The family would like to thank Maplewood Rehabilitation and Nursing Center of Amesbury for taking care of Al.
Albert is predeceased by his wife Angela (2017). Albert leaves behind 6 children- Beverly, Kathy & Laurie from his previous marriage to Nancy Loud. And sons Albert, Jr., Dennis and wife Erin and Sean and three grandchildren in Laura, Sean K., and Aiden.
A celebration of life to be held at a later time and place. Burial to be in Dennis, MA. Assisting Al’s family is the Morris Funeral Home of Ipswich. To send a letter of condolence to the Howes family, please go to MorrisFH.com.
