Linda Lovett Armstrong, of Allentown PA, died of congestive heart failure on Friday, July 25, 2025. She was 88.
Linda was born in Newark NY in 1937 to Gertrude (Lamphier) and Henry P. Lovett. An only child, she and her parents moved frequently because her father worked for the New York State Banking Department during a time of many bank closures. She described herself as a “tomboy” growing up and being the new kid in a school often, she would assert her independence to classmates. She was a stellar student and prodigious reader. The first in her family to go to college, she studied physical therapy at Ithaca College where she graduated in 1959. Linda served as a physical therapist for Sacred Heart Hospital in Allentown and later in the Allentown School District, primarily based at Hiram Dodd Elementary School, from 1979 to 1999. In retirement, she volunteered as an aide at the Lehigh Valley Health Network hospital at 17th and Chew Streets.
Linda married W. Warren Armstrong in Rochester NY on November 24, 1962, and they raised their three sons in Allentown. They grew a network of friends that included Penn State football fans, Scottish Society members and neighbors in Allentown and in Virginia where they had built a vacation home. She and Warren were longtime members of the Episcopal Church of the Mediator. Warren died on March 17, 2017.
A regular patron of libraries, Linda was also a fan of ballet, opera, crossword puzzles, and knitting.
Linda is survived by her three sons, Michael W. (Mellany) Armstrong, of Havertown PA, John P. (Mike) Armstrong, of Bethlehem PA, and Andrew S. (Erika) Armstrong, of York PA, as well as four grandsons, Reed, Drew, Steven, and David.
