Waldorf Man Charged with Attempted Murder After Allegedly Setting Fire to Bed While Wife Slept

WALDORF, Md. — Deputy State Fire Marshals have charged a 49-year-old Waldorf man with attempted murder and arson. They allege he set a fire inside his home early Friday morning while his wife and two children were asleep.

Initially, the Charles County Sheriff’s Office took Omar Shariff Harrison into custody on August 1, 2025. The arrest followed an incident at a residence in the 3000 block of Eutaw Drive, where deputies first responded to the home just after 5:00 a.m. for a reported domestic disturbance. Furthermore, investigators noted that deputies had also responded to the same address the previous evening for another domestic dispute between Harrison and his wife. At that time, the couple agreed to remain in separate parts of the house for the night.

According to investigators, Harrison’s wife awoke around 5:00 a.m. to the sound of her husband moving around the home. She reported that Harrison entered her bedroom and subsequently began pouring gasoline on the bed where she was sleeping. He then poured a trail of gasoline down the stairs and ignited the bed sheets. Fortunately, the woman and her two children escaped the home safely and called 911.

Deputy State Fire Marshals and their K9 “Taylor” investigated the scene. As a result, they determined Harrison intentionally started the fire but later extinguished it himself. The fire caused an estimated $500 in damage. In addition, investigators linked the fire directly to the ongoing domestic dispute, during which Harrison had reportedly threatened to burn the house down.

Following a traffic stop, the Charles County Sheriff’s Office took Harrison into custody. Afterward, they transported him to the Charles County Detention Center. The state has since charged Harrison with attempted murder, first-degree arson, second-degree arson, first-degree malicious burning, reckless endangerment, and arson threat. Harrison remains at the detention center awaiting a bond review.
