Bernard Joseph Ford, 89, passed away on July 24, 2025. He was the loving husband to the late Edna P. Ford; beloved father of B.J., Beth, the late Christopher, and Susan (Scott McDonald); cherished grandfather of Brendan, Patrick, Maura, Liam, Duncan, Ian, Anne-Marie and Jack; devoted brother of the late Richard, and Dennis; loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Bernie and Edna lived in West Rogers Park in Chicago. They loved travel, especially to Italy, other parts of Europe and California wine country. Bernie spent his long career primarily in transportation, rising to lead the CTA and RTA and as President of the American Public Transportation Association. After leaving the CTA, Bernie redirected his career and worked in civil engineering firms, Baker Engineering and McDonough and Associates. While with McDonough he helped develop the plan for Chicago’s Millenium Park as well as the city’s 2016 Olympic Bid proposal.
Bernie, a long time resident member, loved being at EGC whether golfing with friends and family, taking his grandchildren to the EGC pool, or dining on the patio with his beloved wife, Edna. Bernie graciously hosted his entire 1954 St. Benedict High School graduating class at reunions annually in the beautiful Terrace Room.
A visitation for Bernard will be held on Tuesday, August 5 from 10 AM to 11 AM with a Memorial Mass at 11 AM at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 2215 West Irving Park Road, Chicago. Interment will be private at All Saints Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Benedict Educational Endowment Fund.
