INDIAN TOWNSHIP – With heavy hearts yet cherishing fond memories, we announce the passing of Rosalie Ann Stevens on August 1, 2025. Rosalie, lovingly known as Rose, was born in Calais on February 10, 1978, to Howard Stevens and Annabelle Sockabasin.
Rose embraced the world with a unique curiosity and passion, graduating from Lee Academy in 1996. She was a lover of the natural world, finding joy in collecting rocks and expressing her creativity through art. She had a special affinity for wolves, their images resonating with her fierce spirit and unwavering loyalty. Friends were a precious part of Rose’s life, but her world revolved around her family, especially her four children. Her enduring love for her children – Travon Rhodes, Jeremiah Stevens, Shane Lewey, and Aneea Lewey – was the cornerstone of her life and will forever be their guiding light.
Rose leaves behind her adoring mother, Annabelle Sockabasin; three children, Travon Rhodes, Shane Lewey, and Aneea Lewey; and siblings, Lucy Nicholas and husband, William Nicholas Sr., Becky Bailey and husband, Kevin Bailey Sr., Howie Sockabasin and wife, Heather, Glenn Sockabasin, and Ariana Stevens and wife, Armanni Feggins. She was a beloved aunt to Julia Nicholas, William “Cole” Nicholas Jr., Caleb Nicholas, Kelli Denley, Taylor Soctomah, Kevin Bailey Jr., Reanna Crowe, Paige Sockabasin, Dehkin Sockabasin, and Joshua Stevens. Her two special aunts, Esther Bear and Diana Campbell, many aunts, uncles, dear friends, Angela Hood, Mary Sockabasin, Jamie Sockabasin, and her loyal canine companion, Star, and a special cousin who always kept a caring eye, Cindy Perley, also survive her. Each of these individuals held a unique and special place in Rose’s heart, and she in theirs. Rose was reunited in heaven with her son, Jeremiah; her father, Howard Stevens; a brother, Troy Sockabasin; grandparents, Lola and Roseann Sockabasin, and Eugene and Freda Stevens; and a special aunt, Maryellen Sockabasin, who all predeceased her.
Visitation will begin 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at the Community Center on Peter Dana Point Road, Indian Township. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Father Brad Morin, 11 a.m. Thursday, August 7, at St. Ann Church, Peter Dana Point. Burial will follow at the Tribal Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Mays Funeral Home & Cremation Services. We invite all who knew and loved Rosalie to share their memories, stories, and photos on her memorial page; in doing so, we can ensure that the memory of Rosalie Stevens, a woman of extraordinary love and kindness, continues to inspire and uplift us all.
