
LA PLATA, Md., —he motorcyclist seriously injured in a crash on Hawthorne Road Sunday afternoon has been transported by ambulance to a regional trauma center. The roadway remains shut down in both directions as of the latest update.
The crash, which involved a motorcycle and a truck, occurred around 12:23 p.m. on August 3, 2025, at the intersection of Hawthorne Road and Ripley Road.
According to updated dispatch information, the male rider was transported by Paramedic Ambulance 8 to Capital Region Medical Center (UMCRH) for treatment. First responders at the scene reported the rider suffered a broken right wrist and a severe leg injury, with medics assessing for a possible leg amputation. The patient was also placed in a collar, indicating potential spinal injuries were a concern.
Hawthorne Road is still closed in both directions as the Charles County Sheriff’s Office investigates the collision. Motorists are advised to continue to avoid the area.
