COLE, Hersie Nov 2, 1936 – Dec 20, 2024

Hersie Mae Cole, a beacon of love and generosity, passed away on December 20, 2024, at the age of 88. Born on November 2, 1936, in the small community of Emma, in Floyd County Kentucky, Hersie was a woman whose life was characterized by her unwavering faith and her profound dedication to her family. She departed this life in Ashland, Kentucky, surrounded by the love of her family, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and devotion.
Hersie’s journey began as the daughter of Kelly and Alice Mosley Kendrick. Her education at Vinson High School in Huntington laid a foundation of lifelong learning, which she furthered by attending Business School classes at Ashland Community College. Hersie’s career saw her warmly assisting customers at the Fayette Mall in Lexington, where her kindness left a lasting impression on those she served.
Married to her loving husband of 68 years Doug Cole, Hersie found her greatest joy in the roles of wife, mother, and grandmother. Together with Doug, she raised two wonderful children: her son Steven Cole and his wife Debbie of Ashland, and her daughter Beverly Cole Simmons and her husband Gary of Ft. Meyers, Florida. Hersie’s heart swelled with pride for her grandchildren, Quinn Cole, Cole Erickson (Elissa), and Jacob Erickson (Stephanie), and she cherished every moment with her great-grandchildren Colette, Celia, Oliver, Emery, and Jacoby.
Hersie was a faithful member and former Sunday School teacher at Cannonsburg Trinity Community Church, where her faith-filled spirit uplifted many. Her involvement in the Boyd County Homemakers and the PTA reflected her commitment to community and education. Yet, it was in her own home where Hersie’s talents truly shone. She was a consummate homemaker, whose hands were rarely still and whose heart was always open.
Those who knew Hersie would describe her as loving and generous. She had the rare ability to make everyone feel like family, and her home was a haven of hospitality. Hersie’s faith guided her through life’s challenges and was the cornerstone of her existence.
Preceded in death by her parents, and her siblings Billy Ray Kendrick, Russell Kendrick, Gene Kendrick, Bernice Marshall, Martha Jane Porter, and Margaret Jean Porter, Hersie leaves a void that cannot be filled. Yet, her spirit will continue to guide and comfort her family, as they hold onto the precious memories that they created together.
Hersie Mae Cole’s life was a testament to the power of love and the strength of family. As we bid farewell to this extraordinary woman, we take solace in knowing that her legacy will live on in the hearts of those she touched. Hersie’s unwavering light will continue to shine brightly, reminding us all to live with kindness, generosity, and faith.
Funeral services will be held 1:00pm Friday, December 27, 2024 at the Steen Funeral Home 13th St. Chapel by Pastor Bruce Lee. Burial will follow at the Spring Valley Memory Gardens in Huntington. Visitation will be prior to services on Friday beginning at 11:00am at the funeral home.
