Socorro Martinez Cordova, age 87, a beloved mother and cherished member of the Tolleson, Arizona community, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2024, surrounded by family and friends singing and praying. Socorro was born on January 3, 1937, in Moctezuma, Sonora, Mexico, to Prospero Abril Martinez and Senovia Bojorquez Moreno.
In Mexico, Socorro dedicated her early years to teaching—a passion that defined her and continued later in life when she became a catechist at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. After spending some time in California, she moved to Tolleson in 1972 with her young family, where she continued to share her faith and devoted herself to her family as a homemaker. Her unwavering faith and generous heart touched everyone she met.
Socorro is preceded in death by her sister, Maria Luisa Martinez; her brothers, Pedro Martinez, Ignacio Martinez, and Pancho Martinez; and her grandson, Joshua Cordova. She leaves behind a large and loving family, including her six children: Jesus (Jesse) Cordova (Kandy), Maria Amparo Mattingly (Jeff), Jose Cordova, Cruzita Gonzalez (David), Dolores Ramirez (Michael), and Sylvia Bejarano (Gilbert); her brothers, Ramon and Jesus of Tolleson, and Manuel of Moctezuma, Sonora, Mexico; as well as her 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Her legacy of love, faith, and dedication to family will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Viewing and Rosary services will be held at Holy Cross Funeral Home on November 11, with viewing from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., followed by the Rosary at 5:30 p.m. A Mass will be held on November 12 at 10 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church in Tolleson.
May she rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love and grace she so freely gave during her life.
