[font=font157032]MANTENO [mdash] [/font]James Riley Corn, 98, of Manteno, peacefully passed away Dec. 3, 2024, at the Illinois Veterans Home at Manteno.
James was born Jan. 8, 1926, in West Frankfort, the son of John Ray “Doc” and Dorothy “Dot” (Biddle) Corn. He married Wanda Isaacs, the love of his life, on April 9, 1950, in Manteno.
He worked as a railroad conductor for many years.
James proudly served our country as part of the U.S. Navy during World War II in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters of operation.
He was a member of the Kankakee Shriners Club and Shriners International of Medina, Chicago, a member of the Scottish Rite, the Valley of Bloomington, Manteno Masonic Lodge No. 636 and National Society Sons of the American Revolution. He was a practicing Baptist. James also was a member of the Manteno Sportsmen’s Club, the Illinois Central Hunting and Fishing Club, the American Legion in Benton, and the VFW.
Surviving are his loving wife, Wanda Corn; son, Larry Corn; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his father, John Ray “Doc” Corn; mother, Dorothy “Dot” Biddle; brother, Denver Corn; three sisters, Beatrice Atchison, Maxine Easter and Bernice Corn; and a nephew, Jerry Smith.
Burial will take place in Brady Cemetery in Akin.
Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children or the National Society Sons of the American Revolution.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
