Joseph E. Doran, a beloved resident of Crossville, peacefully passed away on November 13, 2024, at the age of 97. Born on June 3, 1927, in Niles, Ohio, Joseph led a life marked by dedication to his family, service to his country, and commitment to his community.
Joseph was the devoted husband to the late Doris Jeanne (Werden) Doran, with whom he shared 67 beautiful years of marriage until her passing. Together, they created a loving home filled with cherished memories.
Joseph proudly served his country as a member of the Navy, serving as Specialist 3rd class in the Naval Air Transport Squadron. A World War II veteran, he enlisted at the age of 17, embodying the values of honor and duty to his country. His military service was a source of pride and a defining chapter in his life’s journey.
Post WWII, Joseph graduated from Ohio University in 1949 with a B.S. degree in Business.
Professionally, Joseph found fulfillment in his career in Finance in Learning and Development, where his leadership and integrity earned the respect of colleagues and clients alike. His career was a testament to his dedication and work ethic, leaving a lasting impact on those he worked with.
After his retirement, Joseph moved to Crossville with his wife Jeanne. He enjoyed playing golf, bridge and serving as a coach/counselor to various youth leagues.
He is survived by his children; daughter, Kathi Van Houten and her husband Steve of Powder Springs, GA, son, Patrick Doran and his wife Jeanene of Crossville, daughter, Barbara Trautwein of Woodstock, GA, and son, Jeffrey Doran and wife Jennifer of Crossville. He is also survived by grandchildren; Stephen Van Houten, Jamie Van Houten Smith, J.P. Doran, Jon Doran, William Trautwein, Samuel Trautwein, Summer Wallace Herrin and Jamie Wallace Gonzales. His surviving great-grandchildren are; Jillian Smith, Lydia Smith, Violet Van Houten, Vincent Van Houten, Nolan Doran, Knox Gonzales, Levi Gonzales, Kaylee Vardy, Jenna Vardy, and McKenzie Vardy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his dear wife, Doris Jeanne, sister, Ada Doran Bertolini and brother, James Doran.
Joseph’s legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew him, as a man of great character, warmth, and wisdom. He made many friends wherever he went and will be well and truly missed by all.
Arrangements and care have been entrusted to Bilbrey Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Donations can be made in Joseph’s name to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the Wounded Warrior Project.
