E. Ronald “Ron” Weiner

Ron Weiner, golfer, avid traveler, cook par excellence, news, sports and politics enthusiast, passed away peacefully at home on July 21. Ron was born on Sept. 4 in Pittsburgh and was the youngest son of three boys born to Nettie and Sydney Weiner.
He served in the United States Air Force for four years and was stationed in Newfoundland. Ron spent his professional life in Washington DC and lived in nearby Virginia. He was a business administrator for the Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA) for 30 plus years. His responsibilities at IDA included traveling around the world on corporation business and overseeing Jason, an independent group of elite scientists that advises the United States government on matters of science and technology. His work with Jason brought the group and Ron to La Jolla for annual summer studies. So it wasn’t surprising that when Ron retired in 1990 he found his way back to San Diego.
A lifelong golfer, Ron was a member of Fairbanks Ranch Country Club and the Grand Golf Club. An interest in power boating offered him the opportunity to take classes in navigation and then to boat ownership. For several years Ron served as the Commander of the San Diego Sail and Power Squadron. He believed in the work that Seacrest Village Retirement Communities does for seniors and was honored to serve on the organization’s board.
A love of good food and a desire to make life more delicious for family and friends, there wasn’t a cooking class he didn’t want to take or a recipe he wasn’t eager to try out. An ambitious cook, dinner at Ron’s home was a sought after invitation.
Ron was predeceased by his parents and brothers Irwin and Arnold. Ron leaves behind Suzanne, his wife of 31 years. He will be remembered by nieces Lori and Barbara; nephews Fred, Gary, Ira and Jeffrey; stepsons Adam and Brian; stepdaughter Sibel; and grandchildren Chloe, Jackson and Fletcher.
Regardless of the hand Ron was dealt, he showed everyone he met what it meant to live life at its fullest. May his memory be for a blessing.
