MIDDLEBURY [mdash] Marilyn Kay Frey, 78, of Middlebury, passed away Nov. 3 at Parkview Regional Medical Center.
She was born Jan. 21, 1946, in Elkhart, to Chester and Ruby (Blough) Hall.
She graduated from Constantine High School in 1964 and went on to Bethel College, where she studied Music Education and minored in mathematics.
She was an avid trumpet player and toured some with her college choir.
She taught one year of music in Michigan and then transferred to Middlebury Middle School, where she became the music teacher.
On June 21, 1969, she married Richard D. Frey at Chapel Hill Missionary Church in Union, Michigan.
On Jan. 21, 1970, she was involved in an untimely accident where she was no longer able to teach.
She returned to work in 1987 to be on the custodial staff at Westview High School until she retired.
Marilyn Frey was known for always playing cards, watching her grandkids play sports, and making some of the most delicious food (even if she never followed the recipe).
She enjoyed playing euchre alongside her husband and friends at Greencroft. If you knew Marilyn, you knew she always played cards to win and always hoped she was on your team and never against you.
She was a member of Pleasant Ridge Christian Fellowship, where she was heavily involved.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years Richard Frey; her two sons, Matthew (Jill) Frey, and Joshua (Laura) Frey; her four grandchildren, Abbey, Faith, Logan, and Reed; one sister, Barb (Larry) Miller; one brother, Dale (Janelle) Hall; 16 nieces and nephews; many great-nieces and nephews; and many friends who will miss her dearly.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Chester (Ruby) Hall; her son, Nicholas; and her brother, Doug.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 5-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, at Pleasant Ridge Christian Fellowship, Middlebury.
There will also be one hour of visitation prior to the 10 a.m. funeral service on Saturday, Nov. 9, also at the church. Services will be conducted by Pastor Mike Bird.
Burial will be in Grace Lawn Cemetery, Middlebury.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Pleasant Ridge Christian Fellowship or trees may be planted at millerstewartfuneralhome.com.
