SHALLOTTE [mdash] Wednesday, Nov 6th at 6:25 a.m., “The Lord received the BEST seamstress, to ever sit in front of a sewing machine!” according to her husband, of almost 61 years.
June Anne Gillett Dame passed away peacefully at home with family, after a long and courageous battle with diabetes and kidney disease, shortly after her 77th birthday.
June was born in Glen Falls, N.Y., and lived in many places across the Northern Adirondacks. She and her husband Ronald Dame settled, in the past 32 years, on the beautiful coast of North Carolina, joined by their immediate family.
She was a kind, modest soul who enjoyed activities involving her family, traveling with her husband seeking genealogical finds, even building their last New York home together in Ellenburg, N.Y. Her professional sewing ability led her to everything from alterations/repairs/dressmaking, as an in-home business, theatrical costuming at the grammar, high school and college level schools in Massachusetts to include Mount Holyoke College, in South Hadley, Mass., and various North Carolina projects. She was an instructor and specialized in equestrian riding, bridal, and formal wear. She was always blessing family and her community, with her beautiful creations and handiwork.
June is predeceased by her father, Franklin “Sonny” Gillett and mother, Gloria Guerin, nephew, maternal grandparents Victor Guerin and Delia Bushey Guerin, and paternal grandparents Walter Gillett and Leola Perry. Also predeceased by her brother, Wayne Gillett and half-sister, Suzy Gillett, sons, Jimmy and Duane Dame, her grandson Jonathan Weightman, and great-granddaughter, Coralie Knickel.
June is survived by her beloved husband, Ronald Dame, her sister, Sondra Gillett, half-sisters, Tina Nephew, Shelly Little, Sheri Lynn Bonacquisti, half-brothers, Randy Gillett and Mitch Young, and brother-in-law, Kevin Gero (wife Darlene Smith Gero); daughters, Laura Lee Dame Lytton (husband Frank Lytton), and Melissa Dame Henson of Shallotte, and son, Michael Dame (wife Diane) of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; grandchildren: Bradley Knickel, Tootie, Harley Lytton, Samuel Lytton, Michael Falcetti, Orchid Dame, Johanna Henson, Nick Dame, and great-granddaughters Ruthie June Falcetti, Lilliana Leah Reike, and Wren Kelty, as well as countless nieces and nephews.
She will be greatly missed by her family, her adopted extended tribe, and the many family members that she has found and reached out to, over the years.
There will be no services until her one and only joins her, and they will be laid to rest in their hometown of Altona, N.Y., beside their sons and grandson, at the Holy Angels Cemetery.
