ANDERSON [mdash] George Arthur Harris Jr., 86, of Anderson, was born Aug. 24, 1938, and passed away peacefully on Dec. 24, 2024.
He graduated from Anderson High School in 1956 where he played football and baseball and sang in multiple choral groups. He went on to get his master’s in education at Ball State University.
He started teaching at Riley Elementary and ended his 41-year career at East Side Middle School. Best known as Coach Harris, his love of sports included coaching football, wrestling and track and field.
He was an active member of East Lynn Christian Church; and also could be found building H and O train layouts.
He is survived by his wife, Janet “Jan” Bolen Harris, whom he married on April 10, 1960; his son, Mark (Cheri) Harris of Goldendale Washington; his daughter, Keri (Tom Ash) and granddaughter, Cameron Goddard of Johnstown, Ohio; his sister, Ann (Noel) Widdifield of Virginia; sister-in-law, Dot Huffman of Oregon; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Julia and George Harris Sr. Visitation will be held on Monday, Feb. 3 at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and a memorial service held after.
