Howard A. Vaughan Jr. (Howdy), 92, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2024. Howard was born in Chicago on July 4th, 1932, and was the son of Howard A. Vaughan Sr. and Martha (Zaring) Vaughan. He grew up in Winnetka, IL and was a proud alum of the New Trier High School class of 1950. Howard graduated from Claremont McKenna College in 1954.
Howard served in the U.S. Army and earned an Honorable Discharge in 1956, after which he joined the family hammer manufacturing business, and ultimately became president of Vaughan & Bushnell Mfg. Co, as the 4th generation. He served as President and Chairman of Vaughan & Bushnell for the next 45 years.
Howard was married to Heidi (Benz) in her hometown of Lachen, Switzerland, lived and raised their three children in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.
Howard enjoyed a home in Aspen, Colorado, family life on beautiful Lake Geneva and later during his retired years returning to Southern California to partake in horse racing. Howard was a generous man and supported causes such as Holiday Home Camp, Water Safety Patrol, the Lyric Opera of Chicago and 100 Club of Illinois. He was a season ticket holder of the Northwestern University and Chicago Bears football teams.
Howard is survived by his two sons Howard A. Vaughan III and Charles S. Vaughan, and his daughter Nicole Rowean (Bryant), and four grandchildren Keegan, Alex, Howard “Hayes” and Heidi Rowean. He was preceded in death by his wife, Heidi B. Vaughan and two sisters, Gloria Vaughan and Martha V. Atkinson.
