HUCKABY, Wilma "Lorene"

Wilma “Lorene” Huckaby, 88, of Royse City, Texas, entered the gates of Heaven on Sept. 27, 2024 and was reunited with the love of her life, James Lloyd (Bro. Jim) Huckaby.
Lorene was born in Pawnee, Oklahoma to Harry and Marie Sharpnack on Oct. 25, 1935. She married her High School sweetheart on Dec. 24, 1954 and together they devoted their entire lives serving in music and youth ministry for several Baptist churches in Oklahoma and Texas.
Lorene was a true Okie even after the Lord called them to serve in Texas in 1973 at the First Baptist Church of Royse City. She loved her Sooners and enjoyed watching them play football, baseball and softball on TV. She and Jim often referred to Oklahoma as the “Holy Land” and enjoyed taking church groups of all ages there on trips. Jim stated many times that he could not have done what he did without the faithful support of his wife, Lorene, by his side and at home often “holding down the fort.”
Even working full-time, she made time for choir tours, camps and mission trips. It was very common for one of their students from Oklahoma to visit and sometimes stay for an extended time with them. Lorene always loved this and welcomed them as her very own.
After relocating to Texas, Lorene worked at the Rockwall Aluminum Plant, Royse City Pharmacy and retired from the Rockwall County Tax Office with approximately 20 years of employment.
Lorene’s legacy is carried on by her children: Rod Huckaby and wife Judy, Felicia Morris and husband Gary, Jeff Huckaby and wife Jane and Mike Huckaby and wife RaDonna; Eight grandchildren: Barrett and Aaron Morris, Holly Huckaby Watkins, Graci Huckaby, Holly Bennett, Heather Evans, Cody Jacobs and Hanna George; 12 great-grandchildren, sister Allene Gray and numerous family members from the Cleveland/Sand Springs area of Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Marie Sharpnack, husband James Lloyd Huckaby and brother-in-law John Gray.
A celebration of life was held on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2024 at 2 p.m., at Rest Haven Funeral Home, Rockwall Chapel. A visitation with family and friends was held one hour prior to the service. Interment was in Rest Haven Memorial Park.
