Jean Randall, “Randy” Fontenot, affectionately known as “Nonc Zan,” a native of Ville Platte and graduate of Sacred Heart School, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, May 12, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on Mardi Gras Day, February 10, 1948, in Ville Platte, Randy was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend who touched the lives of all who knew him with his kind and generous spirit.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Ville Platte on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. Burial followed in the Sacred Heart Mausoleum. Father Tom Voorhies presided over the services.
The Fontenot Family welcomed friends and loved ones for visitation at Ardoin’s Funeral Home of Ville Platte on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, beginning at 3 p.m. until 8 p.m., with a Rosary service scheduled for 5:30 p.m. by Father Stephen Pellessier. Visitation resumed on Thursday, May 15, at 8 a.m. until the time of the funeral service.
Randy dedicated 36 years of his life to Cabot Corporation, where he exemplified the hard work and resilience of blue-collar workers. He approached each day with a strong work ethic and pride, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues.
A man of many passions, Randy found joy in cooking, especially sauce picante, in his favorite black pot. His hobbies were working in his garden and hunting and fishing at “the camp.” Sharing his goods with family and friends was important to Randy. While cooking, he entertained his guests by singing soulful songs using his spatula as his mic and using his spoon on his pot to make a beat. Randy loved to “let the good times roll.”
Randy’s love for his life was matched only by his unwavering devotion to his family.
Randy is survived by his lifetime love and wife, Camille LaFleur Fontenot, with whom he shared 55 wonderful years of marriage. He is also survived by his daughter, Mary Beth Fontenot, and her children, Celeste Alouisse Fontenot, Len Douglas Xu Fontenot, and Jax Randall Chen Fontenot, all of Lafayette; as well as his daughter, Alice Frances Fontenot (Mary Lane Boswell) of Norfolk, Va., and her son, Eli James Fontenot of Thibodeaux.
Randy is preceded in death by his parents, Benny Fontenot, Sr. and Gussie Demoruelle Fontenot; a sister, Cheryl Fontenot Dupre; and brother, Benny Fontenot, Jr.
