Kennedy Austin Adams, beloved father of Raven Adams, passed away in May. Kennedy was the son of Pauline and Joe Adams and the brother of Naidine. He grew up in Menlo Park, California, and attended Hotchkiss boarding school in Connecticut (class of 1975).
Kennedy studied theater, film, and art, and participated in the early years of Shakespeare Santa Cruz. He graduated from the University of California Santa Cruz with a customized Bachelor of Arts in Performance Studies. He married Caecilia and they raised their daughter in Santa Cruz. After Caecilia (aka Gaia) passed away in 1996, Kennedy and Raven moved to Corralitos, where he found joy in gardening and focusing on being a great dad.
Kennedy loved the arts, especially music, theater, film, television, and painting. He played piano and drums beautifully. He also enjoyed the design of classic cars and loved making model cars and ships. He was an avid reader and amateur historian of WWII. Later in life, he dedicated his time to creating art, and he considered his great life work to be “Fragment,” a mixed-media collage composed of obituaries of WWII veterans (newspaper clippings) and oil painting, spanning twelve large (8×6-ft) canvases.
Kennedy was a generous philanthropist and supporter of the arts, especially Shakespeare Santa Cruz (now Santa Cruz Shakespeare). Kennedy was a believer in random acts of kindness, and his parting sentiment was “Love is greater than fear.”
The family will hold a private celebration of life and would appreciate donations in his memory to Santa Cruz Shakespeare in lieu of flowers.
