Raymond ‘Roy’ LeRoy Knapp, of Duncan, Oklahoma, was born September 8, 1930 in Comanche to Victor LeRoy Knapp and Eunice M. (Spurgin) Harrison. He passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at the Lawton/Fort Sill Veterans Center in Lawton at the age of 94.
Visitation is planned for Monday, January 13, between 5-7 p.m. at Whitt Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 14, at 10 a.m. in the Whitt Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in the Duncan Municipal Cemetery.
Roy graduated with the Comanche High School Class of 1950. In April 1951 he joined the US Army during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in March 1953. He then worked for Halliburton as a machinist in the Machine Shop and Tooling for 35 years before retiring in April, 1988. After dating for a short time, Roy married the love of his life, Vivian Genell Murray, on May 7, 1954, spending 71 years together.
He enjoyed spending a lot of time at Lake Texoma where he would camp and jug line fish. He did woodworking and made stained glass pictures. He rebuilt a 1957 Chevrolet pickup. He also enjoyed playing games. He loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Those left to mourn Roy’s passing include his wife, Vivian; children: Cheryl and spouse Daniel LaFleur of Lawton, Darrell and spouse Janet of Central; grandchildren: Cherlinda and Francis Stol, Robert and Suez Burns, Randy and Melissa Burns, Jonathon and Dana Knapp, Jennifer and Chris Killmer, Jeromy and Taylor Knapp; 15 great grandchildren; and 10 great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Janice Knapp; parents; and sister, Dorothy Hames.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Empire Volunteer Fire Department or to the Oklahoma Baptist Home for Girls in Madill, Oklahoma.
