A Celebration of Life for Joe Oliver Martin, 80, will be held at a later date, as family and friends gather to remember and honor his remarkable life.
Joe passed away peacefully on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 24, 2024, at Livingston Regional Hospital.
Born on Dec. 22, 1943, in Noblesville, Indiana, to Herman and Betty Martin, Joe lived a life filled with dedication, kindness, and adventure.
Joe had a passion for fishing and hunting, often finding joy and serenity in the great outdoors.
In his younger years, he had a love for roller skating, a skill he not only enjoyed but also shared by teaching lessons to others.
He was deeply committed to his community, dedicating 40 years as a volunteer firefighter in Wayne Township and Atlanta, Indiana. His bravery and selflessness made a lasting impact on those he served. In addition to his service, Joe spent many years as a truck driver, showcasing his hardworking spirit and love for the road.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Virginia Martin; his children, Pearl Goff, Eugene Strunk, Tim Martin, Anna D’Amato, Teresa Costa, and Jerry D’Amato; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Betty Martin; his brothers, Jerry, Mike, Jim, and Larry Martin; his sisters, Sharon Treser and Virginia Hazelwood; his stepdaughter, Donna D’Amato; and two great-grandsons.
Joe’s legacy of love, service, and dedication will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. His memory will forever be cherished by his family and friends.
The family kindly requests that donations be made in Joe’s memory to the Indiana Volunteer Firefighter’s Association, INC., to honor his decades of service and passion for helping others.
