MINER, Clement Mar 9, 1938 – Dec 8, 2024

WINCHESTER [mdash] Clement Joseph Miner, 86, went to meet his Savior on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2024. He was born on March 9, 1938, in Clinton County, N.Y., to the late Ernest Miner and Anna (Ayotte) Miner. He served in the Marine Corps, was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, was a retired computer programmer from Lexington-Bluegrass Army Depot, then held bus driving jobs for Clark County Board of Education, Kentucky River Foothills, and delivered parts for Car Quest. He was active in the Knights of Columbus, working and playing bingo and part of the seniors group at the church.
Clem is preceded in death by his wife, Gale Hackworth and several brothers and sisters. He is survived by his daughters, Angie (Marc) Devers of Richmond, Shelly Miner, Pam Greer, and Jennifer (Chris) Miles of Winchester; 10 grandchildren including Joshua White, Chris (Alecia) Greer, Joel White, Tabatha (Charles) Gilpin, Ashley (Will) Kincaid, Whitney Tuttle, Matthew Tuttle, Tyler Miles, Courtney Miles, and Rebekah Miles; 12 great-grandchildren including Makala, Ryan, Whitley, Zoey, Kayden, Brantley, Mayson, Jackson, Willie, Sophia, Delaney, Wyatt, and Skyler; one great-great-grandchild, Leon; one brother, John Miner and three sisters-in-law, Betty Miner, Betty Crawford and Margaret (Wendell) Cole and a special cousin Joan (Tom) Ellis. He also leaves behind a special companion and close friend, Yvonne Martin as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Clem graduated from Sallaz Academy High School in 1956, enlisted in the Marine Corps and was honorably discharged from his rank as Lance Corporal in 1959. He and Gale wrote letters for a year before they met for the first time in December of 1958. Clem returned to New York, had a terrible wreck, lost contact with Gale and almost lost her to another man. In October of 1960, he moved to Winchester, Ky., to be with his darling Gale. They married in 1961 and started their family in April of 1962. He worked as a taxi driver and construction worker before starting work at the Lexington-Bluegrass Army Depot and ultimately trained as a computer programmer. He provided well for his family while also farming including keeping animals, growing tobacco and vegetable gardens. He enjoyed nature by camping, fishing and hiking mostly in Kentucky and indulged the family with trips to beaches and northern New York to visit his family.
His constant companion after Gale passed was Yvonne Martin. She was exactly the companion to enjoy dining out, playing bingo, attending movies and having adventures. He enjoyed the senior group at his church, working with the Knights of Columbus at bingo, counting the collection after Sunday services, and Sunday dinners at the Martin’s. He lived his life as he wanted and was very proud of his family and his independence. His sense of humor, ready smile, ability to fix anything mechanical or electrical, and his persistence will be dearly missed.
Services will be held at 9 a.m., Saturday, December 14th, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday at Scobee Funeral Home Leon Pace Memorial Chapel. Pallbearers will be Joshua White, Chris Greer, Joel White, Matt Tuttle, Tyler Miles, Walter Hackworth, Bobby Faulkner. Honorary pallbearers are John Miner, Mike Crawford, Marc Devers, Chris Miles and Sonny Hurst. Burial will be in Clarmont Memorial Gardens on Mount Sterling Road.
