Methuen – Ruth E. (Birch) Piccolomini, 92, of Methuen, passed away peacefully December 11, 2024 at Nevins Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Ruth was born on March 18, 1932, to the late Edward and Ruth (Simard) Birch. She graduated from Lawrence High School in 1950. Following high school, Ruth worked at Lawrence Maid Shoe Shop, eventually leaving to raise her two children. Once her children were grown, Ruth entered the work force again at Sunny’s Diner on Essex Street, Lawrence; later she worked many years and retired from the former Zayre’s and Ames Department Stores in Methuen as a customer service representative.
Ruth is pre-deceased by her brothers Edward Birch and Raymond Birch and her sisters, Evelyn Smith and Emily Rastello.
Ruth enjoyed many activities in her retirement years, including going on bus trips with her sister Evelyn, traveling to Pennsylvania Dutch and Disney World with her daughter, playing bingo at the Methuen Senior Center on Mondays for many years and activities at Park Gardens Apartments.
Ruth is survived by her children, her daughter, Ann Piccolomini of Methuen and her son, John Piccolomini and his wife, Maria of Groveland. She also leaves her grandchildren, Sarah Keenan and her husband James, John Piccolomini Jr, and Lisa Piccolomini and her fiancée, Jonathan Schnier; two great-grandchildren James Keenan and Kelly Keenan; her brothers, Robert Birch, Walter Birch and his wife Shirley; and sisters-in-law, Barbara Birch and Josie Birch, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Tuesday December 17, 2024 from 9 am to 11 a.m. at the Dewhirst Boles Funeral Home 80 Broadway, Methuen. A Funeral Mass will be at 11:30 am on Tuesday at St. Theresa Church at Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish, 22 Plymouth Street, Methuen, MA.
