Sherwood, Joseph

Joseph Mark Sherwood, II, or Joey to those who knew and loved him, was born on March 12, 1993, an extraordinary day marked by snow in South Louisiana while he came into the world in a Texas military hospital. He was as unique as the March snowflakes that fell on his birthday and unfortunately, he left our world too soon on July 14, 2025. An Army brat, he bounced around a few states in his childhood, learning to crawl and speak French in Louisiana, toddle in the desert of California, and eventually settling in New Mexico and Arizona as an adult. He was a creative soul and a voracious reader, with a kind heart and a warm, friendly smile. He leaves behind a son, Joseph Sherwood, III, his parents, Mary East Sanders and Joseph Sherwood, and his sisters Samantha Sanders and Tracy Boyette. He is also survived by his grandmothers Rebecca East and Maria Chauvin, as well as his aunts Yvette Chauvin Rispone and Susan East Nelson, and uncles Charles East and Fred Chauvin. He was preceded in death by his stepfather William Sanders, III, and his grandfathers Morris East and Junius Chauvin, as well as his aunt, Mary Loftus. He also leaves behind friends spread throughout the country who all have a funny story (or two) to tell you about Joey. His Louisiana family will hold a small memorial on August 2, 2025, in Baton Rouge. The family asks that in lieu of sending flowers, those who wish to remember him send donations to the Jed Foundation (jedfoundation.org) or NAMI (nami.org).
