Dallas, Texas – It is with great sadness that we share the loss of our beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend Chris Simpson.
He was born to Delpha Teague on September 24, 1969, in Dallas, TX and passed away on October 6, 2024.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Kristin Simpson, their children Marcus, Calleigh, and Sadie Simpson, his father Jeff Simpson and brother Matt Simpson, his Aunt Bobby Phillips and cousin Barnie Phillips.
He was predeceased by his mother Delpha Teague, his grandparents Royal and Edna Teague, his Aunt Betty and Cousins Rex and Scott Phillips.
He attended Rockwall High School and completed his higher education through the University of North Texas in Denton, TX. He received his B.S. in Kinesiology in 1992, his M.Ed. In Counseling in 1999, and his Ph.D. in Counseling in 2002. He and his family made their home in Dallas, TX.
Chris dedicated his life to helping those around him through acts of service, counseling, and as an educator training future therapists. His area of expertise included in non-suicidal self-injurious behavior (NSSI), Grief and Bereavement, and Counselor Supervision. He served in private practice for 21 years.
After graduation, Chris headed to San Francisco, CA where he taught as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Counseling at San Francisco State University. He returned to Texas and taught at Texas A&M University – Commerce for 17 years, becoming a Full Professor. He was most recently associated with Tarleton State University for the past 2 years.
Throughout his tenure, Chris taught a variety of Master’s and Doctoral Level Courses for these Universities and served as an adjunct professor with several other local colleges and universities. Chris received the Professor of the Year Award at Texas A&M University- Commerce in 2016 along with several other awards. He co-authored many refereed articles, book chapters, and authored a book.
His love of children is shown brightly through his work as a counselor and therapist at Camp El Tesoro De La Vida (The Treasure of Life). Chris was involved in this one-week grief camp through Camp Fire for 19 years. He was also very involved in the life of his church serving as Elder, Sunday School Teacher, Youth Sponsor, and service on various committees. Of all these accomplishments, he was most proud of his children and family.
He will be tremendously missed.
