Peabody – William Joseph Glennon, son of Philip and Catherine Glennon (Shine) passed away at home on January 1, 2025. He was 93, two months before his 94th birthday. He was married to Elaine Glennon (Magnoli) for 67 years and is father of three children, William J. Glennon, Jr., of Peabody, MA, Laureen Mesloh of Sayville, NY, and Daniel Glennon of Salem, MA, two grandchildren, Will and Juliet Mesloh, a brother, John Glennon and his wife, Elinor, a sister, Kay DeMauro and her husband, Robert. He was also the brother of the late Richard Glennon and his wife, Anita and Philip Glennon and his wife, Evelyn.
William received his education at the Boston School for the Deaf, Randolph, MA, the Horace Mann School, Roxbury, MA, and American School for the Deaf, West Hartford, CT. He entered Gallaudet University In Washington, D.C. and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics. Then he studied at Boston University, School of Education and received Master’s degree in Education. He also studied at Malden Business School and received Certificate in Accounting, Cost Accounting and Taxation. He continued studying at the University of Lowell as a Doctoral student in Language Arts.
At first, William was an accountant at the Raytheon Company and at Dickie-Raymond, Inc., Boston, MA as a Cost Control Accountant. But later, he became interested in teaching, so after taking courses in teaching, he taught at the Horace Mann School and Beverly School for the Deaf as a substitute teacher. He was also a sign language instructor at Boston University, Lesley College, Northern Essex Community College, and North Shore Community College. In addition, he taught Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in English, Mathematics and English Literature.
William was an Assistant Director at Gallaudet College Regional Center at Northern Essex Community College.
William was devoted to his family. He was a great storyteller and his children enjoyed listening to his stories during meals. He delighted his children with trips to playgrounds, Revere Beach, and the Boston Marathon. William always expressed his thanks for any kindness; he was very prompt in writing thank-you notes. William built several projects and was self-taught in construction. He built a large shed for storage for yard and garden equipment. He also built an office and a large den in the basement. He enjoyed long walks with the family dog.
William enjoyed going to Bingo and other events hosted by the New England Homes for the Deaf. He especially enjoyed chatting with Deaf friends in American Sign Language.
William is profoundly missed by his family and those who knew him.
Visiting hours will be held at the Conway Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, Thursday, January 9, 2025 from 9 to 10:15 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at St. Adelaide’s Church, 708 Lowell St., Peabody, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will be held privately in Connecticut.
