Austin, TX – James Weldon Wilson, 89, passed away peacefully in Austin, Texas, on May 2, 2024.
The oldest of four siblings, Jim was born and raised in Dallas, Texas, and proudly lived most of his life in the Lone Star State. He was a pillar of strength to all who knew him. Jim’s passion for flying led him to solo at the age of 16 and work cropdusting in north Texas as a teenager, then to serve in the Navy as a pilot where he flew patrol in Okinawa, Japan during the 1950s, culminating with a 29-year career with Delta Airlines.
During his retirement years, Jim continued his mission to serve his country by volunteering as a police officer in Kendall County and South Texas.
Jim was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Joan, and he is survived by his two children, five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
