BRYANS ROAD, Md. — Charles County Government is launching a new pilot program called the Collaborative Community Improvement Project (CCIP), and Bryans Road/Indian Head is the first area selected.
The goal? To work with the people who live, work or spend time in the area — to identify what changes and improvements they want to see in their community.
Five areas in Charles County were considered for the pilot, each identified as having a higher concentration of low-income and minority residents. The locations included Bryans Road/Indian Head, West Waldorf/Billingsley, St. Charles, Cobb Neck and Indian Head/Nanjemoy.

The selection was based on several key factors, according to county staff. Residents in the area have expressed a strong desire for better communication with the county and frustration over previous gaps in outreach and inclusion. The area also has active community groups that county staff believe can help guide the project and provide insight for future efforts in other communities. Additional considerations included the timing of a feasibility study for multigenerational residents and the area’s connection to partners such as the Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Division.

The first in-person meeting is Saturday, Aug. 23, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Potomac Branch Library in Indian Head. A virtual meeting is set for Thursday, Aug. 28, from 6 to 8 p.m.
